Stubby's double maintains metro premiership lead

Jason Holder’s superb start to the 2021-22 season continued at Morphettville on Saturday, claiming the $102,250 Viddora Series Final with Another Award.

The Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained four-year-old gave her rivals a start before she charged home to beat So Say Angel and Point Blaze, taking her earnings to more than $230,000 from just 15 starts.

Holder is riding at better than 22 per cent runners to winners and shared riding honours with apprentice Ben Price who continues to shine at metro level, scoring on Rastelli and Renegade. Price sits second behind Holder in the race for the SA Metro Premiership.

Former local horseman Lloyd Kennewell took training honours with a double winning the opening two races on the card.

In Melbourne, underrated sprinter Dexelation maintained his unbeaten record since returning from a short break with a fast-finishing win at Moonee Valley early on Cox Plate Day.

Coming off a campaign starved of luck, Dexelation won smartly first-up at Morphettville and repeated that effort up in class with Jye McNeil in the saddle.

Friday night saw Sign Of Ussuri provide Tony and Calvin McEvoy with a second SA country feature of the season, as the gelding took out the $107,250 Gawler Cup, narrowly holding off a fast finishing Splash Some Cash in the process.

While the Shayne Cahill stable continued its impressive strike-rate on the west coast when Raise An Army made it four wins from as many starts over the 1350m journey at Port Lincoln on Sunday. Raise An Army was the first leg of a training double for Cahill, as Miss Catastrophi scored in race five with Kayla Crowther on board.
