The loss of key races over the past seven days and a race free week in Victoria will see a bumper end to the 2020-21 South Australian racing season.
Four straight days of racing will see out the current season culminating with Saturday’s Lightning Stakes meeting at Morphettville, before the 2021-22 season opens at Port Augusta on Sunday.
Racing SA have 124 acceptors across 10 races at Balaklava on Wednesday.
The forecast of improving weather will hopefully see a track upgrade (currently a Heavy 10) with the first race scheduled for 11.10am.
Another 166 horses are entered for Gawler on Thursday, almost all of which are South Australian based horses. Saturday's Morphettville meeting has been moved to the Parks on Friday with scratchings reinstated and some minor distance changes to the five races that were abandoned due the torrential weather. Three races have been added, confirming an eight race card.
Saturday will decide who wins the Adelaide Trainer and Jockey Premierships, while the Listed Lightning Stakes has attracted impressive nominations led by Group 2 Tobin Bronze winner Beau Rossa from the Will Clarken stable.
Clarken has six nominations in the three-year-old feature which also features leading Victorian stables including Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr, James Cummings and Matt Ellarton and Simon Zahra. In addition, Lloyd Kennewell is heading back home with his speedy filly Esta La Roca.
Port Augusta will kick off the 2021-22 SA racing season on Sunday, the fifth straight day of racing across while the trials programmed for Balaklava on Friday, July 30, have been transferred to Monday, August 2.
Despite Monday’s positive COVID update, noting that sporting venue restrictions are still to be confirmed, racing will continue with essential personnel only and no spectators permitted on course.
