Milestone beckons for prolific Pannell

Todd Pannell could reach a magical milestone at Morphettville on Saturday.

Three winners will see the reigning John Letts Medalist record his 1000th career winner.

Pannell, who started his career in Adelaide as an apprentice under the guidance of John Hawkes, recorded his third century across South Australian earlier this month.

A treble at Morphettville on the Parks track last weekend saw him draw level with Jessica Eaton in the race for the Adelaide Jockey Premiership and he has another bumper book of eight rides on the nine-race card.

Surprisingly Pannell is without a ride in the opening race but has four rides for Will Clarken. If the market is any guide, Pannell's best chance of the day could be in the last race when he rides Melody Man for Victor Harbour horseman Jake Stephens.

Melody Man opened $7.50 with tab.com.au but now finds himself a $2.80 favourite from barrier 15.

And while Pannell has his eyes on 1000 career wins, Jake Toeroek is closing in on a milestone of his own.

Toeroek sits on 498 career wins and heads to Morphettville with a book of eight rides, led by Keep Reading who looks the horse to beat in the opening race on the card for the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable.
