Lincoln Moore's Balaklava Preview

BEST BET: LADY HIGHLY (Race 6)

EACH-WAY: ZEPPA (Race 8)

VALUE: MORIALTA (Race 5)

RACE 1 - 12:10PM Balaklava Stitch Joint Maiden Plate (1609 METRES)

Open race after the scratching of Fiamette. WHOSEZOU is back in SA after two runs in Victoria when he was thereabouts without really threatening. This looks a suitable race for him and he must be respected. JAKAZONE looked a winner when 3rd behind Turn Table at Gawler two starts back. He followed up with an average effort at Murray Bridge last week but draws well and shapes as the improver. SMART PROMISE jumped favourite at Swan Hill two runs back and then returned to SA and was only fair behind Celtic Valour at Murray Bridge last week. This looks a touch easier. JUSTEDEE was OK behind Turn Table at Gawler last time but has already had two chances to win a maiden.

SELECTIONS: WHOSEZOU, Jakazone, Smart Promise

RACE 2 - 12:45PM Mid North Tyres Maiden Plate (1050 METRES)

MUTINOUS is the one after scratchings on debut for Travis Doudle after going through the online sales. He was a short priced favourite at his first SA run behind Montign at Penola when in the care of Price/Kent Jnr. He gets in well here with the claim and won’t find too many easier maidens. The market can’t really separate the rest. SET TO ROCK is on debut for Ryan Balfour and was a trial winner here. MEDIEVALDIAMOND is on debut for David Jolly while CORNEILIA STREET is in the Hayes yard but hasn’t done much in two runs.

SELECTIONS: MUTINOUS, Set To Rock, Medievaldiamond

RACE 3 - 1:20PM Docair Maiden Plate (1300 METRES)

A few winning chances here BLAH BLAH BLAH was better last behind Short Stories at Morphettville and that form stood up again last week. He should give this a shake. GO BUNDLE has been runner-up at his past two starts, the latest behind Lomax at Gawler last week. GREEN OPINIONS has been around the mark and tried hard behind Whiskey ‘N’ Women at Murray Bridge last time. AMBER HAZE is the horse with the most upside and was good when resuming behind Lomax at Gawler last week. Getting out in trip should suit. CHRYSOS finished 2nd in a Ballarat maiden and the McEvoy stable has a great record here. MALINONG CLUB won a recent Morphettville trial.

SELECTIONS: BLAH BLAH BLAH, Go Bundle, Green Opinions

RACE 4 - 1:55PM The P J Gilchrist Memorial Benchmark 54 Handicap (1050 METRES)

Was keen on Smart Alick each-way, so now going to follow the money with FRENCH ROCK who punters have stepped into for the second time in four days. He was well backed at Morphettville last Saturday and has almost halved his quote here in early betting ahead of his debut for the David Jolly stable. CILIATA resumes here and was placed at Sandown which shapes as good form for a race like this, RUSTYDUSTYSUNSHINE has handy fresh form and can show up, EL MAGNIFICENCE is first-up in SA for Andrew Clarken.

SELECTIONS: FRENCH ROCK, Ciliata, Rustydustysunshine

RACE 5 - 2:30PM Terminus Hotel Balaklava Benchmark 58 Handicap (1200 METRES)

Happy to have something on MORIALTA each-way was impressive here first-up from a spell when he charged over the top of rivals and this shapes as an easier race than last time behind Koruto last time. SANBUCK was a good Gawler winner last time out and was strong through the line. He looks to have solid appeal again here and is very firm in early markets. CALL ME ARCHER is another who can run well in this sort of class on his Gawler win four starts back and was only beaten 2.6 lengths behind Zoist at Morphettville two runs back. IT’S A SHAME made good ground from a long way back behind Bon Pegasus at Gawler.

SELECTIONS: MORIALTA, Sanbuck, Call Me Archer

RACE 6 - 3:05PM The Plains Producer Benchmark 62 Handicap (2212 METRES)

LADY HIGHLY has been good in two SA runs, she was very good first-up behind Highly Discreet at Murray Bridge over 1400m before jumping up in trip and was only fair behind Not Usual Glorious at Morphettville. That form has stood up again since and she should give this a shake, the big long straight looks ideal. BARTENDER BLUES battled on strongly and still got through the line OK behind Busker’s Ballad at Murray Bridge last time. SOSTENIDO makes his own luck and was good finishing runner-up behind Azzureous at Murray Bridge. He’ll be on speed and sure to give this a shake. LUTZ was a good Strathalbyn winner before he looked to have his chance at Murray Bridge last week. SMILING ASSASSIN is one who can show up at odds and ran OK behind Celtic Valour at Murray Bridge.

SELECTIONS: LADY HIGHLY, Bartender Blues, Lutz

RACE 7 - 3:40PM Shane Allen Plumbing Benchmark 54 Handicap (1400 METRES)

Wide open race. FLYING PIERRO chased home Hasta La Bullet at Penola in January and comes here on the back of a trial behind Trip who has won interstate since. He’s never placed in six first-up starts but this looks a great place to kick off and the stable is going super. TURF TAPPER ran well behind an in-form Tanja’s Dream two runs back but only battled behind Chevite at Gawler. He has been placed here. DELUXE DESIGN was runner-up at Morphettville back in November and has had the two trials for his return. He’s another who is better over further but should be thereabouts. HILUMIERE was good behind Carbone at Strathalbyn two starts back and then only battled behind Call Me Dexter at Gawler last week. LUCKY DOG is lightly-raced and could be an improver in a race like this.

SELECTIONS: FLYING PIERRO, Turf Tapper, Deluxe Design

RACE 8 - 4:15PM McArdle Concrete Benchmark 58 Handicap (1609 METRES)

Tough finish to the day ZEPPA looks well suited here after a solid effort behind Busker’s Ballad at Murray Bridge last time. The McEvoy stable normally goes well here and this looks a winnable race. CALL ME DEXTER was too good on his home track beating Carbone at Gawler last time and he looks a big chance again. EUROGEM was a Gawler winner last time out beating Harbouring and has claims, RENASCENCE is a former Victorian first-up in SA for Andrew Clarken and was a Pakenham and Wangaratta winner during April, that form should have him the finish here. APPLIED scored at big odds at Murray Bridge last week and is drawn well, LE DUPE was runner-up behind Hasta La Bullet at Murray Bridge in April and is better than recent form, NEAR MAGIC has claims from a wide gate. FALLOW is better than last time and LOLLIELUCAS is one to follow but is likely to need this.

SELECTIONS: ZEPPA, Call Me Dexter, Eurogem
