Jockey’s milestone horse guns for Redelva success

Anna Jordsjo hopes her milestone horse can deliver another career highlight in tomorrow Listed Redelva Stakes at Morphettville.

Mileva is marked an $8 chance in early TAB markets in the $197,250 3YO feature, behind warm favourite and potential superstar Instant Celebrity ($2.90).

Jordsjo – still finding her way as a senior jockey – only has eyes for her filly, after landing her first black-type winner aboard the Dan Clarken-Oopy Macgillivray-trained runner in last month’s Manihi Classic.

“Mileva was my 100th winner, my first Listed winner and before that was part of my first metro double as a senior,” Jordsjo said.

“I’ve worked really hard with her, spent a lot of time with her, and she means a lot to me.”

Second-up in the Manihi, Mileva raced near the speed before defying all challengers in the straight – and Jordsjo is looking to repeat the dose over the same 1100m journey tomorrow.

“It worked out perfectly for us (in the Manihi) and I’m hoping this Saturday it’ll work out the same,” she said.

“There’s a fair bit of speed inside us, with Spanish Heirloom and Aquagirl, so hopefully they can jump to the front and I can get a similar type of run through.

“It’s definitely a tougher field, but I believe she’s stepped up from her last start. That was only second up and she’s only going to keep improving fitness wise.

“She’s going super, she’s pulled up well, she’s trained on, so I can’t see why she couldn’t step up…”

Jordsjo praised the job done by Clarken and Macgillivray with Mileva and is daring to dream, including a possible start in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes on May 1.

“In my apprenticeship and my career I’ve sat on a few really nice horses, but I’m yet to really have that one horse takes me through,” she said.

“Hopefully Mileva is the one…

“Unfortunately she went shin sore (in last year’s carnival) and I had appendicitis, which kept me on the sidelines.

“We’re definitely going into the carnival better this year than last year…”

Jordsjo is also hoping to strike a blow during the Adelaide Racing Carnival with the Sue and Jason Jaensch-trained Victory Bandit, who will run at Strathalbyn on Sunday after being balloted out of tomorrow’s Auraria Stakes at Morphettville.

“Victory Bandit is still a maiden, but she’s put together a couple of really good races,” Jordsjo said.

“So, hopefully she can win on Sunday, gain some more prizemoney and get into a couple of those staying three-year-old races.

“She’s got plenty to learn, but she’s a really exciting horse.”

The Philip Stokes-trained Instant Celebrity has created a big impression during her five-start career, notching four wins and a third placing in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas last spring. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt is high up in the betting for this year’s Sangster.

Talented filly Muntaseera, trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, is second favourite ($6) for the Redelva.
