Lincoln Moore's Oakbank Preview

BEST BET: ELOPE TO VEGAS (Race 8)

EACH-WAY: PALE ALE (Race 6)

VALUE: BRONKSI (Race 7)

RACE 1 - 12:50PM Ecycle Solutions Maiden Hurdle (3200 METRES)

LOOKING AROUND is a former South East galloper who has had four runs for the Eric Musgrove stable and was OK behind Mazaz at Terang. He has won six races and would be close to a good thing here on a rain affected track, but he will still be fighting out the finish. KING VALOUR is an interesting and well-travelled former Kiwi who spent some time in SA with Grant Young. He was placed twice in picnic grade in Victoria before a good Cranbourne trial but was well beaten behind Chenners at Warrnambool. He has trialled well again since, but must be taken on trust. BUCKEYE NATION was placed at his only jumps start at Ballarat last August and ran well at a price at Strathalbyn on the flat last time. He trialled nicely behind Mr Coyne here and is trained on the track. CASTANEA was a Pakenham maiden winner over 2500m three starts back but is unplaced in both jumps starts.

SELECTIONS: LOOKING AROUND, King Valour, Buckeye Nation

RACE 2 - 1:25PM Adelaide Hills Farm Services Colts, Geldings & Entires Three-Years-Old & Over Maiden Plate (1400 METRES)

Not a race with a huge amount of depth. GRAFTON AVENUE had jumped out well before he was luckless on debut at Morphettville, being held-up at crucial stage. He can turn that around quickly for the in-form Travis Doudle stable. SUPERB TIME has been good at his past three and the latest behind Exalted Fire at Balaklava should have him in the mix here. GANGSTER RAP was $31 into $11 at Bordertown and was only beaten 2.3 lengths. He draws well and must be respected. CHARGING FIRE has been placed at three of six and the latest, first-up from a spell behind Sweet Distraction at Balaklava, looks the next pick. FIFTYSEVENTHSTREET trialled up well back in June but needs to lift on his two runs back from a spell.

SELECTIONS: GRAFTON AVENUE, Superb Time, Gangster Rap

RACE 3 - 2:00PM TAB Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1050 METRES)

Good little race. WITNESS GREATNESS has been good at all three runs and has chased home Gulf Of Suez at her past two. Blinkers are off and she was won a recent Morphettville jump-out. ZOMBIE WITNESS had shown enough in jump-outs to be thrown in the deep end on debut, running seventh, beaten 15.1 lengths behind Seradess in the Cinderella Stakes. She draws well and could turn that around here. She did finish off well in a recent jump-out when ridden off the speed. BLUE LINE gets blinkers for the first time and has been on speed at both runs. REACH FOR JOY should find this easier than her debut behind Vandoula Lass at Sandown. JIMMY’S EDGE draws out but did improve at his second start behind Champagne Dreams at Morphettville.

SELECTIONS: WITNESS GREATNESS, Zombie Princess, Blue Line

RACE 4 - 2:40PM Ecycle Solutions Von Doussa Steeplechase (3250 METRES)

ZED EM is one of the best jumpers Oakbank has seen in the modern era and is chasing his sixth win, all in features, from as many starts. He’s also aiming for a remarkable fourth Von Doussa in succession. He’s had his usual flat prep in NZ, plus two trials ahead of his return, and will take plenty of beating. Steven Pateman has been aboard Zed Em for four of his five wins here and he’ll be trying to bring about his undoing aboard YENSIR. This import has won four races, all over the jumps, back in England. His two flat runs in Australia have been good, and the Maher and Eustace stable have a great record when they come to Oakbank. Local GETTING LEGGIE will be in the mix. He won last year’s Brierly at Warrnambool and has gapped rivals in his two trials here in the lead-up. ELVISON has three wins from 10 starts over the fences and defeated Big Blue by 35 lengths in a recent Warrnambool trial. The Eric Musgrove pair of LUCQUES and ZATAGLIO are very fit and must be respected.

SELECTIONS: ZED EM, Yensir, Getting Leggie

RACE 5 - 3:20PM The Bath Hotel Maiden/Class One Plate (1900 METRES)

Another race lacking depth. MY GOLDEN CHAIN won a Strathalbyn maiden in November over 1100m and his past two efforts have been chasing home Neodium. He jumps sharply up in trip but draws well and looks hard to beat. SISTER DEE finished third behind Master Of Zerprise at Murray Bridge two runs back at a big price and is a winner here on her home track. TUFF CAT has been placed at four of his past five and has raced here before. His effort two runs back behind Exalted Beast is good for a race like this. HENRY THE BRUCE had market support when fifth behind Air Time at Naracoorte last time.

SELECTIONS: MY GOLDEN CHAIN, Sister Dee, Tuff Cat

RACE 6 - 4:00PM Magain Real Estate Benchmark 62 Handicap (1100 METRES)

BARACONI has been racing in stronger class, chasing home the smart Outlaws Revenge twice before a good effort when third behind Beau Rossa at Morphettville last time. She gets into this very well down in the weights with the claim for Ben Price and should be hard to beat. PALE ALE looks a danger. He has a good record here with a win and two placings from four starts and usually runs well first-up. He has jumped out well at Morphettville beating Tradewind. SIR JOHNSON came off the speed to win easily at Clare last time and is more than capable in a race like this given the right run. However, he has drawn a sticky gate. STRIKE THE NIGHT draws perfectly in barrier three and has won two of her past four starts at Clare. TURF TAPPER raced well last campaign, finishing second behind Smart Alick here in December, and has been freshened for this. FAREWELL GRETA was a winner here three starts back in December beating Carbone. She also races well fresh. COOL MAGNUM was a Naracoorte winner two starts back and ran well up in class behind Melba Storm at Morphettville last time.

SELECTIONS: BARACONI, Pale Ale, Strike The Night

RACE 7 - 4:40PM Adelaide Hills Insurance Brokers Benchmark 62 Handicap (Heat 5 Provincial Super Series) (2150 METRES)

SHEBRINGZIT was in the stewards’ report last time when she was tightened in the home straight and beaten only a length behind Witchachar Star at Strathalbyn. She was beaten 7.1 lengths in the Morphettville Guineas behind Struck By at her previous start, which is a good form for a race like this, and the 2150m looks ideal. However, she is a filly taking on the older horses. CENTENARY SHOT has won nine races and was narrowly beaten at Avoca last time. BRONSKI has the blinkers going on and his past couple of runs he has finished second, including behind O’Mizzna at Bordertown last time. Stablemate JUST ROLLING made good ground behind Saduka last starts. ACE ATTACK was a winner here over the 1900m here three starts back. LONGCLAW is a handy jumper with two trials under his belt and if anyone can get one to win first-up at 2150m it’s Patrick Payne.

SELECTIONS: SHEBRINGZIT, Centenary Shot, Bronski

RACE 8 - 5:15PM Profiler PR Class Two Handicap (1400 METRES)

Looks a nice race for ELOPE TO VEGAS, who came from well back to be beaten just 2.5 lengths behind Justica at Murray Bridge, before another good effort when just 1.3 lengths behind Neodium on the Parks last time. He’s awkwardly drawn but has Todd Pannell to overcome that. APPOLLO JET is racing well and scored at Strathalbyn four starts back. His past couple have been OK and he looks a danger. ZEPPA is the interesting one, resuming for the McEvoy stable. He has trialled twice here, but both have been only fair. He was placed behind Oath Of Omerta at Morphettville last campaign and was tried in the Hill Smith Stakes. YOU ES MARSHAL was a winner on the Parks track last time and draws a perfect barrier here. APPLIED was placed here in December and could be an improver from a good draw.

SELECTIONS: ELOPE TO VEGAS, Apollo Jet, Zeppa
