Lincoln Moore's Oakbank preview

BEST BET: SCARLET RIVER (Race 5)

VALUE: BAR GEM (Race 8)

RACE 1 - 12:30PM Ecycle Solutions Benchmark 120 Hurdle (3200 METRES)

Local jumper MR COYNE caused an upset first-up from a spell and ran well up in class at Morphettville on the Parks last time out. He’s won his two trials here in the lead-up and looks the one to beat. MAZAZ trialled OK before winning at Terang last start and has the Eric Musgrove polish. Kiwi CLEAVER won his maiden hurdle back in October and comes here with two flat runs under his belt. REXMONT finished third as a $2.40 favourite at Terang last time out. He had trialled smartly prior and must be respected. CREATIVE HARMONY would need to improve sharply to figure.

SELECTIONS: MR COYNE, Cleaver, Rexmont

RACE 2 - 1:10PM Ted Hameister Memorial Highweight Benchmark 62 Handicap (Jumping Riders Only) (2900 METRES)

THE RED SEA was a city winner four starts back at Morphettville when he led by a big margin and showed fight to score. He’ll take beating here in what looks a very winnable race. ROUGH BEAUTY was a Gawler winner three starts back and should race handy to the speed. DROP THE ORANGE is a winner at his only start here and trialled over the fences in a lead-up. MY FOUR OH NINE hasn’t raced since last September and only has one trial under his belt, but is in very clever hands and has been kept safe in early markets. SOSTENIDO comes out of much stronger races and was placed in the Strathalbyn Cup five runs back.

SELECTIONS: THE RED SEA, My Four Oh Nine, Rough Beauty

RACE 3 - 1:50PM Qube Logistics Benchmark 120 Steeplechase (3250 METRES)

MY KING’S COUNSEL had been racing well on the flat before getting the job done at his first jumps run this campaign at Terang last time out beating Lucques. That looks good form. HISTORIC was impressive winning first-up from a spell on the flat at Warrnambool last March and has a recent Cranbourne trial under his belt. He must be kept safe. CHENNERS ran on strongly behind My King’s Counsel at Terang and he was a Warrnambool winner previously. MACKLEMORE should be fitter for one run back form a spell and is a winner over the jumps in NZ. NEWBURY won a Cranbourne trial before an even effort on the flat last time. PENTELLIGENTSIA has trialled well over the jumps but his flat form is only fair.

SELECTIONS: MY KING’S COUNCIL, Historic, Chenners

RACE 4 - 2:30PM The Bath Hotel Maiden Plate (2150 METRES)

Big drop in class for filly BRIABELLA after chasing home Struck By in the Morphettville Guineas last time. She was good behind Yuri Royale at Morphettville on the Parks two runs back and getting out to the 2150 looks ideal. MYSTIC KNOT ran well at Balaklava behind No Strings and then finished off well behind Another Whine at Naracoorte last time. Another who should appreciate the extra trip. GOLDEN MO has been only fair at both runs but should appreciate stepping out in distance. LEWANDOWSKI trialled OK here behind Sasun and then only battled at Balaklava but could be value in a race lacking depth.

SELECTIONS: BRIABELLA, Mystic Knot, Golden Mo

RACE 5 - 3:00PM Mt Bera Vineyards Maiden Plate (1400 METRES)

SCARLET RIVER looks to get her chance here. She was runner-up behind Pimm’s Party at Morphettville on debut and ran well last time behind Zero Inn in Saturday class. AQAAREB has been placed at seven of 14 starts and runner-up her past three, the latest behind Worsfold at Strathalbyn. She gets the blinkers again. COMFORT GIRL ran OK in her first two runs making ground behind Montepulciano last start, but might need it even further. DUCK DIVE was placed at Balaklava back in September behind Victoria Quay and is fitter for two runs back. THE AFFIRMATIVE is on debut for John Macmillan and finished fourth at Gosford two runs back.

SELECTIONS: SCARLET RIVER, Aqaareb, The Affirmative

Race 6 - 3:40PM Sugar Financial Services Class One Handicap (1050 METRES)

CHOSEN BLONDE has been scratched from a few races in preference to this and her form line is strong for this. She was runner-up behind Written Beauty at Moonee Valley three starts back and led when second to Beau Rossa first-up from a spell. She looks a clear top pick. The danger is DAILY SPIRIT, who was a Morphettville winner two starts and has a good record for a race like this. SANBUCK won a Geelong maiden back in June, while SYLVITE made good ground at Port Lincoln last start.

SELECTIONS: CHOSEN BLONDE, Daily Spirit, Sanbuck

RACE 7 - 4:10PM Happy 50th Birthday Andrew 'Jimmy' Masters Maiden Plate (1050 METRES)

Another handy little race. GATSBY’S GIRL was solid behind a handy one when running second to Gaze Grise at Balaklava and has been placed at her past four. SEA WITNESS comes out of the same race, running fourth first-up from a break, and gets the blinkers on here. ESCALADE is on debut for the McEvoy stable and has been thereabouts in two trials here which could be beneficial. ZIPADEE has been placed at three of 10 and led last time behind Better, who has won since, at Balaklava. JUST JAZZ has trialled well for her debut, while POWERFUL FLYER draws a good gate.

SELECTIONS: GATSBY’S GIRL, Sea Witness, Escalade

RACE 8 - 4:50PM Melt Pizzeria Hyde Park Benchmark 62 Handicap (1400 METRES)

WORSFOLD was a Strathalbyn winner on debut and has been sent out favourite his past couple in stronger races. He draws an awkward gate but has his share of ability and should be hard to beat here. STRIKE IN STYLE was good first-up from a spell behind Viduka at Morphettville. He’s suited form a good gate. BAR GEM made good ground behind Neodium on the Parks last time and looks over the odds in a race with some depth. MACCABEE is fitter for his first-up effort when sixth behind Zoist at Morphettville and is a Kilmore winner. BAJAN gets the blinkers again and has drawn badly but is another who is big odds. LOVE MAGIC is trained here and was a Gawler winner in December.

SELECTIONS: WORSFOLD, Strike In Style, Bar Gem
