It’s weight over gate for promising Alleboom

Richard and Chantelle Jolly have opted for weight over a sticky gate with exciting three-year-old prospect Alleboom.

The stable will stay at home in Adelaide with the impressive last-start Flemington winner. He will lug 60kg after the claim for Caitlin Jones over 1100m on his home track in preference to barrier seven in the Listed McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley.

“We looked at the field and the barriers and the horse himself and I’ve decided to stay home,” Jolly said on RSN.

“The feeling was just from barrier seven was he’s probably not going to be able to slide across with ease and have to do a little bit of work – and he’s probably a bit suspect at 1200m.

“He’s only had one go at 1200m, he drew an outside gate, we tried to hold him up and it went pear shaped.

“I’m a bit mindful sixth run in, travelling again, just the way the race looked to me…

“Had he drawn one, two or three we might be going but we’ll stay home.

“He’s drawn one (at Morphettville). He’s got a big weight but he’s got a bit more going for him. He’ll probably bounce on the lead and be hard to run down.”

The stable also has Kirinia and The Big Goodbye in the same race.

Kirinia will be trying to bounce back from a disappointing run when she finished last of five behind Star of Uma while The Big Goodbye was an easy Port Lincoln winner last time out and has drawn barrier four.

However, the Jolly stable will have a runner at Moonee Valley with impressive last-start winner All Banter making the trip after drawing perfectly in barrier three with Jamie Kah booked to ride.

“She’s got good ability,” Jolly added.

“She’s had a few little troubles along the way, (but) it was a really good win first-up. It was a small field but they ran a class record.

“She’s drawn a good gate and she’s not making up the numbers.”

Jolly said it had been a good week for SA racing with the announcement of boosts in both prizemoney and a change to the SABOIS scheme.

“Prizemoney going up helps everyone in the industry – trainers, jockeys, owners – and we’re really grateful for that to happen,” he said.

“And the announcement of the rejig of the SABOIS scheme; that’s been rebooted and that’s another help for the breeding industry.”
