Freedmans favouring Adelaide return for gun sprinter

The Anthony and Sam Freedman stable are looking at a return to Adelaide with Prophet’s Thumb in Saturday’s $100,000 City Of Marion Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Top jockey Todd Pannell has been booked for the ride, but the stable also accepted in Melbourne in the $140,000 Carlyon Stakes over 1100m at Moonee Valley, where she has drawn barrier two.

“At this stage we’re leaning towards running over there,” Freedman’s racing manager Brad Taylor said.

Prophet’s Thumb was a Listed winner in Sydney when in the care of David Pieffer and was placed in Adelaide first-up this campaign when third behind Snitzkraft in the Listed Wylie Stakes.

Her two Melbourne starts since have been very good, including an eye-catching effort behind Shamino in the Listed Doveton Stakes at Sandown last time out.

One More Jack returns from Melbourne and has drawn perfectly in barrier two, with Paul Gatt taking the ride, while Jason Holder will partner Too Good Too Hard for the Phillip Stokes stable. This leaves the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained Tequila Time needing a rider.

Teagan Voorham will again ride the speedy Savatoxl for Tony and Calvin McEvoy, with the former NT galloper allocated the top weight of 60kg. The 1200m Listed feature also includes the David Jolly pair of Trip and Lakhani Rose, both down on the minimum with 54kg.

Trip has been in superb form this campaign, while Lakhani Rose has been kept fresh for her toughest test to date.
