McEvoys aim to keep cup run rolling

Tony and Calvin McEvoy will be hoping Blow Torch can continue their brilliant provincial feature run in Friday’s $45,000 Gawler Cup (1500m).

The state’s leading trainers captured the Balaklava and Murray Bridge features with Winning Partner but will need some luck from a sticky inside gate with the Dare To Dream-owned five-year-old.

With Barend Vorster sidelined through suspension, Jeff Maund will ride Blow Torch, who chased home Winning Partner in the Balaklava Cup last time out – the first time he’s missed a place in his past eight starts.

Michael Hickmott will saddle up two runners, including Danon Roman, who will have to carry the top weight of 60kg on the back-up from last week’s Murray Bridge Cup with Todd Pannell in the saddle.  Jessica Eaton is booked for stablemate Peloton, who finished fourth behind Winning Partner in the Balaklava Cup.

L’Amarybelle, trained by Jeff Searle, comes into the race off the back of a remarkable victory over 1200m at Gawler earlier this month, when she came from a seemingly hopeless position to win running away from the field, albeit in much lower grade.
