Seeing doubles as highlights flow at Morphettville Parks

Three doubles, another masterful staying ride, and the middle leg of a country stable’s winning streak highlighted Saturday’s nine-race Morphettville Parks meeting.

Apprentice jockey Caitlin Jones teamed up with the Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable to land a double, starting with speedy two-year-old Theresabearinthere, who led throughout to win race two over 1000m.

The combination was to the fore again in race seven, when Irish Mint pipped hot favourite Flostar to win the benchmark 82 event, also over 1000m.

Jockey Paul Gatt finished the day in style, claiming the final two races. Gatt gave Streetcar Stranger a perfect ride to win race nine (benchmark 68 over 1000m) for David Jolly, and 40 minutes earlier brought Sue Jaensch’s Alsvior with a powerful run to win the 1300m benchmark 68 event. The victory was Alsvior second in just four days, after the four-year-old gelding won at Murray Bridge last Wednesday.

Naracoorte-based Jaensch picked up her third winner in just five days on Sunday, when Out Proven won at Bordertown.

Meanwhile jockey Dominic Tourneur again underlined his prowess as a rider of stayers by winning Saturday’s 2250m event at Morphettville Parks aboard Busker’s Ballad.

The race changed complexion multiple times, with different horses makes runs and surging to the front. Tourneur let it all unfold ahead of him, before bringing Ryan Balfour’s backmarker with a rails run to overhaul Victorian visitor Andrea Mantegna close to the line. Three weeks earlier Tourneur earned plaudits for his ride on Budd Fox in a similar staying event at Morphettville Parks.

Impressive winning performances on Saturday were put in by Phillip Stokes’ three-year-old Defiant Dancer and by Ricky Moore’s rejuvenated Rothmoore.
