Some of the state’s biggest and best trainers are sending a strong contingent of runners to Clare this Easter to make for a super day of racing across SA. We have a look at each of their runners and their chances to collect a winner’s cheque in the state’s beautiful mid-north
Tony McEvoy (1st in the SA Trainer Standings)
Two Runners: Dixon Street – Race 1 & Double Blue – Race 3
The leading trainer in the state is sending two debutant’s to Clare on Saturday to kick off their racing careers. Of his two fillies, Dixon Street is yet to trial while Double Blue has trialled a number of times over the last six months and finally gets to debut. They will both be ridden by Girish Goomany who is looking for his first winner in 2019.
Grant Young (2nd in the SA Trainer Standings)
Three Runners: On Fire – Race 4, Dance of Heroes – Race 5 & Chumpunya – Race 6
Of Young’s three runners, his strongest chance looks to be Dance of Heroes who ran fourth in this year’s Port Lincoln Cup. The eight-year-old is well down in grade on his last few starts and while he’ll still be carrying 59.5kg after Sophie Logan’s claim he looks a class about his rivals. There are plenty of wily characters lining up in this race but Young’s runner looks very close to a victory.
Will Clarken (3rd in the SA Trainer Standings)
Two Runners: Crimson Tycoon – Race 1 & Star Central – Race 3
Clarken’s two runners look to be two of the best bets on the Clare card on Saturday. Crimson Tycoon just missed as a short priced favourite at Mildura last start while Star Central beat Lil Kontra home in her last start and Lil Kontra has since gone on to win the Listed Dequetteville Stakes. Both horses have the services of the experienced Paul Gatt which only strengthens their chances.
Richard & Chantelle Jolly (9th in the SA Trainer Standings)
Three Runners: Rainmoth – Race 1, Artistic Focus – Race 2 & Maheera – Race 5
The new training duo have been enjoying a heap of success recently which included a win the Group 3 Irwin Stakes last Saturday. Rainmoth makes her debut after a nice trial win last week while Artistic Focus was close to her second win last start at Strathalbyn. Eyes will also be on Maheera who makes her debut for the stable after crossing from the Mitch Freedman yard.
Chris Bieg (13th in the SA Trainer Standings)
Four Runners: Unscopeable & Raheeba – Race 2, Zameric – Race 4 & Strategic Agenda – Race 7
The in-form trainer brings four runners to Clare on Saturday including last start winner Unscopeable. The mare was a strong winner in the same grade last time out but will be facing off against her stablemate Raheeba in Race 2. Zameric is still searching for his debut win while Strategic Agenda was seriously unlucky not to win or at least run into the placings in her last start in a blanket finish at Oakbank.
