Moreira Watch - His rides for Saturday

Adelaide is getting swept up in ‘Magic Man Fever’ and Joao Moreira is heading to South Australia in great form after winning five races at Sha Tin on Sunday night including the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

Earlier in the year, Moreira became the first jockey to ride eight winners on a Hong Kong card and also has the amazing record of riding eight winners from eight rides at Kranji, Singapore in 2013.

Could the ‘Magic Man’ create the same magic at Morphettville on Saturday? He has a full book of eight rides on Schweppes Oaks Day including four for David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

A preview of each of his rides is below:

Race 1: Model Dragon – Phillip Stokes

The Phillip Stokes trained mare has a great record with four wins from seven starts. She steps up to the 1600m from her last start second placing behind UBET Classic runner Beautiful Flyer in a fillies and mares 1200m. She will take on a few older and more experienced horses but will only have to carry 54kg in the race.

Model Dragon is currently a $3.20 chance with UBET

Race 2: Kourkam – Tony McEvoy

Last start Oakbank Cup winner Kourkam has a Listed win to his name and will be very competitive in the Carbine Club Handicap on Saturday. Kourkam defeated top-weight Jim’s Journey in his last start at Oakbank but the swing in the weights will favour Jim’s Journey, while Victorian visitor Second Bullet is current favourite for the race.

Kourkam is currently a $4.50 chance with UBET

Race 3: Outboard Motors – D&B Hayes & T Dabernig

The Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes looks to be tough race on paper with many of the starters only having a run or two. Moreira’s mount Outboard Motors was last seen two weeks ago when running fourth behind Tabbing by one length. Tabbing lines up again in the field but there should be natural improvement with the filly Outboard Motors.

Outboard Motors is currently a $6 chance with UBET

Race 4: Faatinah - D&B Hayes & T Dabernig

Faatinah ran second behind Sheidel in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate who Moreira will ride later in the day and while the gelding hasn’t lived up to that run in his last two outings, he will start second favourite in the Group 3 McKay Stakes on Saturday. With a spot in the Group 1 Darley Goodwood up for grabs, the stable will be looking to have Faatinah in the race again after finishing fifth in last year’s edition. The horse has a great record at Morphettville with two wins from three runs.

Faatinah is currently a $5 chance with UBET

Race 5: Circular – John O’Shea

Godolphin trainer John O'Shea doesn’t bring many horses to Adelaide so when he does it is worth taking notice.  Two starts back the mare won the Group 3 Matron Stakes over the 1600m and she has a 50% winning strike rate at this distance. Moreira rode her to victory in that Group 3 win and will be a strong chance to make it two from two on Saturday.

Circular is currently a $5.50 chance with UBET

Race 6: Sebring Dream - D&B Hayes & T Dabernig

Trainer David Hayes won the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks 10 years ago with Anamato and will be hoping that the Magic Man can help him win his second with Sebring Dream. The filly ran on very strongly for third in the Schweppervescence Stakes behind race favourite Kenedna two weeks ago and it looks as if the extra distance will suit her.

Sebring Dream is currently an $18 chance with UBET

Race 7: Sheidel - D&B Hayes & T Dabernig

Moreira teams up again with second favourite Sheidel after winning the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate aboard her in February. He has a great relationship with the mare, riding her twice for two wins. Sheidel is right up to Group 1 company, contesting five Group One’s in her last five starts. While this year’s edition is very strong, she will have lots of supporters in the betting ring, especially with Joao on board.

Sheidel is currently a $5.50 chance with UBET

Race 8: Benz – Gordon Richards

The locally trained Benz steps up to Group 2 level for the second time in his career coming, off a seventh placing in the Listed Redelva Stakes. Two starts back he won the Group 3 Zeditave at Caulfield over 1200m and runs that same trip this weekend in the Euclase. The 1200m seems to be his favourite trip, only missing a win once over the distance in four starts. The Magic Man on board can only be a positive.

Benz is currently a $12 chance with UBET
